Arlene McGrath - Office Administration
The main thing that enjoyed was the interaction in the Portuguese Culture. They are very humble people and made me feel very secure and confidence in my placement, even when there was a language barrier when the only speaking person was off. The cuisine was very different but truly enjoyed! The really focus on fresh, quality food. I loved exploring a region that is typically forgotten about when you think of Portugal. It is an area that I will 100% be returning to. I have also made a friend for from my workplace and also from the people that I went out to Portugal with from GTI.
The there was various skills that I improved that relates to my course such as filing, organisation and even letter compiling. I developed many other skills besides such as independence and sheer confidence. I always felt medically, I was unable to travel or even work abroad alone. This experience has proved me wrong. With how busy the office was, I seen that I have good communication skills and my personality shun through even with the language barrier with clients, Erasmus+ has really help me decide on my future career plans and also enhance my CV for future job and college applications. I now know that I want to go into a career where communication is an important element. Maybe basic administration is not for me but more advance or accountancy is for me.
Overall the experience was wonderful! It has giving me confidence in travelling and in my career path. It has taught me to always believe in myself and not let something hold me back in life. I also seen how wonderful Portuguese people are and the similar issues they have like the west of Ireland.

I loved the people who I worked with, working in Portuguese was a challenge but fun, and seeing how the Portuguese people lived and worked. I met a whole range of new people, reading and proof reading in Portuguese was a challenge I very much had to put my my proof reading skills into play. Attention to detail was very much a focus in my work,. I am hoping that my experience in Portugal will improve my chances in finding work, as I went on the work placement to gain more office experience, I feel I gained more confidence in the practical every day office life. I am hoping it shows an employer that I have a willingness to learn and that I can be put out of my comfort zone. That I also show a commitment to what ever task I am set. Overall I enjoyed my experience immensely, I feel I gained in the office and in turn giving me more confidence in applying for work after GTI, I feel I gained more practical skills.
