What I enjoyed most about my placement was the city of Glasgow itself. There was always something going on in the city you just had to look for it. The primary skill I improved on while on placement was my teamwork skills with the other Erasmus students. This opportunity gave me a chance to live abroad by myself and see I could actually manage rather well in an unknown environment.
Practical skills wise the majority of my new camera skills I began to pick up myself by simply taking my camera and wondering around the city of Glasgow and just taking photos and video.

From my placement in Pori I enjoyed getting to know the people iv traveled with even more and learning more about them, I also loved to get to know about the Finnish students and their life's and how it can be different and also the same as ares here in Ireland. From a skills point of view I feel that iv developed my person skills, but also from my camera skill iv improved so much and have also gotten the chance to use so many news cameras and equipment which I feel will benefit me in later life in film and getting a job. The Erasmus has given me such a great opportunity's to get jobs etc as it is something to but on an artists CV which not a lot of people can do as for someone of my age to go and work in film in a foreign country is very rare.

The experience of being in a city that is alive with film and culture has drastically changed my view on where I wish to go in the future. Living for myself and working in a professional environment was a new and personal developmental experience. Made new friend, contact and potentially future collaborator within the college we attended. Learning to better sell myself as my intended role and focus in on my strengths. Erasmus has given me a more expanded view of the world and enlightened me to the potential for further study/education abroad. It has also taught me the value of taking the initiative within all aspects, especially for one's interests and benefit.

From my experience I learned a lot about using industry style equipment such as cameras, mics, lighting and editing software. I also have bettered myself with my knowledge of lighting and sound which I was not very familiar with before the experience. Not only have I bettered my technical skills, I have bettered my own personal skills as well, as now I am better at communicating with people and I feel a lot more confident within groups of people which was a massive issue for me prior to leaving. Definitely coming away from the experience, I will take my new found knowledge of the studio equipment but as well as this I will take away the friendships I made with the people both who I went with and who I got the opportunity to work with. I have taken a lot away with me from this experience and I cant wait to apply my new knowledge and skills in the working world and when I continue in further education.

I have acquired lots of technical knowledge and camera skills and I got the chance to use professional equipment that I would not have had the opportunity to use before. This helped me to know that I would like to work in film in the future, although I am not going to continue studying film for now. Although most of them spoke English, some did not so I also learned how to communicate better with people who speak a different language than i do and improved my confidence in dealing with people in a professional setting. I had some great experiences meeting people who i will stay friends with who have the same interests as me. This experience really helped me to feel more independent because I had never lived away from home before, but it really gave me the confidence to know that I can live alone and in a foreign country.

I got access to go on a fully funded placement and work in a proper studio environment. The Finnish students I work with was another enjoyable and were very welcoming. We had a great time experiencing their culture as they brought us on many different trips that showed us aspects of Finnish culture. I have greatly improved upon my communication skills as I worked with clients and other students who are more knowledgeable in this field of work. It has help me discover that I would be happy working in a foreign country and that I want to work as an editor.

Overall, much of my time working abroad was positive in nature. Some of the most enjoyable things that come to mind while reflecting include: Living and working in a new environment (foreign country), meeting like minded people who share similar interests (film & documentary) and most importantly, having learned many new skills and knowledge.
The following skills were developed: Camera operation/handling, video and sound editing, audio recording, writing, idea generation and communication (personal & interpersonal). To elaborate on one such skill, I had the opportunity to work on a promotional video for a small charity. This really helped me to further develop my cinematography skills as I was acting cameraman.
Erasmus+ will most definitely help with my future ambitions. For example, the new skills and knowledge learned will be very advantageous when applying for possible cinematography/editing jobs both within Ireland and abroad. Overall, my experience can be summed up as being primarily positive. I am delighted to have been selected and given the opportunity to do what I have done.

During my E+ placement in Finland, I enjoyed the Multi Cam shoot as it gave me skills I wouldn't have learned in Ireland before actually working in the industry. It also taught me a lot about teamwork and the nature of working a set - set lingo, communication, delegation. I enjoyed directing the promo despite it not being my first choice of role. It taught me to have more confidence in my abilities to communicate professionally and to delegate. I enjoyed meeting the Finnish tutors and students. They did everything possible to immerse us into their culture and I have made friends for life.
This experience will help me in the future as it has completely enriched my skill set by allowing me to study film-making, not just theoretically, but actually in person, with real time constraints and solving real issues. I will be much more confident about applying for jobs in the industry in Ireland and I will definitely welcome the opportunity to work in an international context again.
